As the most comprehensive privacy law in the U.S. to date, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) has more far-reaching implications than just in California. It paves the way for future privacy laws blanketing the nation. CCPA is only an introduction to future regulations, as consumers demand more visibility and control over how their data is collected, stored, and used.
Regulations continue to evolve for CCPA itself, as other states and the federal government look to California’s law to create their own CCPA lookalike regulations. Since going into effect at the beginning of the year, the California attorney general’s office released a second draft of implementation regulations for CCPA. While there is more clarity in the law, questions still abound, and changes will continue to be inevitable.
